Skyward Specialty Leverages Gradient AI to Offer Unique Stop-Loss Solution
Skyward Specialty Insurance Group, a leader in the specialty property and casualty (P&C) market, has partnered with Gradient AI, a leading enterprise software provider of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in the insurance industry, to power its Accident and Health (A&H) division's latest technology driven stop-loss solution, SkyVantage. AI and ML News: Why SMBs Shouldn't Be Afraid of Artificial Intelligence (AI) As employer healthcare costs continue to rise, an increasing number of businesses are turning to self-funded health insurance models. However, lack of access to sufficient historical data leaves many companies unable to purchase stop-loss insurance, access necessary protection to self-fund employee benefits and take advantage of the value-added quality and cost containment solutions afforded to self-funded employers. These employers are relegated to the fully insured market to provide health benefits, resulting in double-digit annual increases and plan designs that leave employees functionally uninsured. Skyward Specialty A&H met this challenge with SkyVantage, which leverages Gradient AI's SAIL medical underwriting solution.
The Hottest Startups in Barcelona
"Barcelona has triumphed over Madrid as Spain's startup capital because of the deal flow and the talent," explains Miquel Martí, Tech Barcelona's CEO. "International talent is attracted by the lifestyle, the strength of the ecosystem, and the presence of international companies." According to Barcelona & Catalonia Startup Hub--the region's startup directory--there are over 1,900 startups in Catalonia, mostly concentrated in Barcelona; since 2016, the number has grown by over 75 percent. The city has long had a strong tradition of health-tech startups fueled by university and regional government collaboration, but successful founders have been funding, supporting, and starting other companies, as well as diversifying into construction, mobility, and sustainability. There's also been a slow trickle of fintech companies from London, lured by post-Brexit border-free banking, good weather, a lower cost of living--and the beach.

The Future of Employee Benefits is Hyper-personalized - Global IQX
This is an opportunity for insurance carriers to differentiate with an always-on, contextual educational experience in addition to improved digital self-service options. While a single agent or broker can't offer personalized advice to thousands of individual insureds with varying needs and levels of knowledge, technology can. Digital assistants and chatbots can answer questions, guide plan members through enrollment, and recommend new products and services based on a plan member's health and demographic information. Like human assistants, the best digital assistants are proactive, not reactive. Ella, the name of Sun Life's AI-enabled "digital coach" first launched in 2018, encourages plan members to take action on important deadlines, cost-savings, and product offerings.

Will AI Help Close the Skills Gap?
Forty percent of HR leaders believe artificial intelligence will help fill the skills gap. That's according to a new study by Learning House and Future Workplace, which surveyed 600 U.S. HR leaders. More than half of those surveyed acknowledged the skills gap and more than a third believe it's harder to fill open positions now than it was in 2017, but some critics say companies are not doing much to fix the problem. The study found that 74 percent of companies are only investing $500 per employee on learning and development. Jeremy Walsh, senior vice president of enterprise learning solutions at Learning House, said he was shocked by the low amount of money being spent on L&D.
